People are the most difficult subject to draw because of endless combinations of shape and surface.  But they are also the most fascinating because each is alive with energy and enthusiasm.

Brush Cutter

This five-year-old is hard at work proving he can do as much work as the grownups.   The determination of children to prove themselves capable is always an inspiration to me.  Wouldn't it be great if we could hold on to that youthful enthusiasm all our lives?

The Well-Mannered Cat

Pets will suffer many an indignity out of affection for their human friends, as this cat is doing.  He is probably looking forward to the moment when he can choose his own activity - perhaps a quiet nap in an out-of-the-way kind of place.

The Village Blacksmith

Once a fixture of every village, the blacksmith can now be found mostly at historic villages such as Hale Farm in Bath, Ohio.

The Hale Farm smithy, housed in a wooden shed with a large forge at the back, is filled with sights, sounds and smells as timeless as the trade.  Heat radiates from the forge to fill the room as the big black hand bellows pumps air into the embers.   Hammers, tongs, files, and scraps of iron jostle for space on the work table.   The anvil rings with blow after blow of the hammer molding hot metal to its finished shape.

Grandmother, Grandson

A leisurely summer afternoon offers time to relax and enjoy the timeless motion of Lake Erie waves making their way, one after another, to the beach below.  Grandmother and grandson sit and contemplate the wonder of a perfect day.

The Banjo Man

Master musician Dan Levinson uses a rapid-fire "claw hammer" technique to belt out old-timey tunes on his 5-string banjo.  Equally nimble with a fiddle, he keeps his audience spellbound with his repertoire of the music of yesteryear.  It's hard to keep your toes from tapping, or just bustin' a move, as you listen to the lively music.
